SS-31 is a cell-permeable tetrapeptide that associates selectively with cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is used in isolated mitochondria and cultured cells to study cristae architecture, electron-transport efficiency, reactive-oxygen-species production, and ATP output.
